Building the Cradle
In hopes of flipping the Donkey
With the final coats of epoxy primer applied, it will soon be time for the final sanding and painting of the topsides. Before that, I decided to build a simple cradle for the boat to rest on once it's turned right side up.
To create the cradle, I marked out frames A and D on the hull and placed a piece of lumber on top. Using a laser, I marked the horizontal line and cut the angle with my track saw. I then added longitudinal beams, gluing and screwing everything together. I positioned the wheels just inside the support beams, thinking this would create a slight upward bend, providing additional support along the chine.
With this cradle, I hope to easily move the boat around my shop and avoid extensive leveling when I need to secure it in place for work.
