Making and Glueing the Bottom
Check out how The first of two bottom layers gets glued to the frames
Since there are two bottom layers I chose to build them with butt joints and doublers on the inside. For the bow piece I was able to use the scraps of the transom plating which reached just behind frame D'. Perfect since that is where I will be housing my batteries. I made the inside doubler so wide, so that it would stretch to the next floor timber. The Next joint I placed just in front of frame A. For the most aft piece, I glued on the inner backing plate for the skeg. Both of the doublers were glued to the middle piece, so that's the one that will go on first.
Botom epoxied, sanded and taped.
I used mold release agent to coat the screws, that go in the stringer, so I could take them out after glueing. I did this so I wouldn't have to worry about ruining my planes when making everything flush.
Wherever possible I will be putting the screws back in. All other places the screw holes will be filled.
A friend of mine came and helped me out with the glueing part. With everything prepared, the 3 plates went on within a view hours. The remainder of the day, and pretty much as long as the epoxy would allow me, I spent cleaning up the glue joints.
For the cleanup I used a joint smoother squeegee with a very tight radius, my fingers and some acetone.
